Have you ever been so absolutely sure of something and then find yourself changing your mind?
I know I have.
All I have to do is revisit the mindset of my 20s, 30s, or 40s to witness that my absolute beliefs were many and that I held onto those little suckers like they were my life jackets. If you were to ask me, I would have sworn they were true.
The truth - those absolutes that I tightly held onto clouded my compassion, peace, happiness and love.
Here are a few that I staunchly clung to (I cringe as I revisit some of my absolutes ‘judgments’.)
Women should work outside the home when they have children
Children should not be put in front of a TV for the parents to have free time.
You must protect yourself from men.
Women are better than men.
All people should… my shoulds about people were many. Anything from they need to get counseling, be more introspective, read more, drive better, be kinder, blah, blah, blah.
What’s so outrageous to me at this point in my life… I was certain my beliefs were right. Little did I know how very judgemental and limiting my absolutes were.
Little did I know that what I thought was absolute was not!
Simone de Beauvoir states what I did beautifully,
“Representation of the world, like the world itself, is the work of men; they describe it from their own point of view, which they confuse with the absolute truth.”
Nowadays, I don’t readily make absolutes.
My Learning
I’m grateful to share that in my wiser days, I’ve come to the understanding that what other people do or don’t do is none of my business! I also see everyone with a much kinder and more loving lens.
It took quite some time, hence my earlier mindset, for me to understand that the only absolutes that are pure, true, complete, and permanent truth and can always be trusted - are the Laws of the Universe. Or Godly laws.
At this juncture of my life, I see everything that I or others go through as a learning. In the past, I had a lot of knee-jerk reactions. Today, with the softening of my perspective I relax, let go, feel compassion, come up with solutions, and I’m so much happier!
Thank goodness, I let go of what I believed to be were my absolutes.
These days, anything other than Celestial Laws is up for questioning.
How about you? Do you have any absolutes? If so, are they hindering or supporting you? I’d love to hear about them.
Let’s Take a Look at a Real Absolute
Fourth Face of God: Absolute
Friend, before we go further with this face of God, I want to share that when I look deeper into the 12 Faces of God, I understand that they are absolutes that we can hold onto and we can incorporate into our daily lives. Undoubtedly they will bring us good! I like to refer to these precious gifts as - Soulful Essentials.
Here’s the scoop on the fourth face of God: (Please use whatever word works for you regarding the Divine.)
While in my daily meditation, I courageously decided to ask for the fourth Face of God. What do you know!? I get it!
I ask and I receive. Just. Like. That.
I receive the word: Absolute.
With the word Absolute, I experience an energy. It’s hard to describe this palpable yet elusive energy. Hmm…Maybe this image will help. Think of a kind yet powerful whirlwind all around you, and you can, sort of, get the feeling.
In this friendly, uplifting whirlwind energy, I get a full grasp of the meaning of Absolute.
Here it is:
Although God’s nature is ever-expanding, you can trust that God’s laws are not malleable. God's laws do not change even if circumstances change.
You can count on God’s laws to always adhere to God’s nature. A nature of Unconditionalness, Purity, Justice, Peace, etc.
For example, God will not one day be unconditional toward you and what you consider your imperfections and the next day be conditional and hold them against you. God does not sway from God’s laws.
God is infallible.
This is the way of God – Absolute.
I don’t know about you, but I sigh with relief and smile with gratitude as I rest in the truth that all of us can trust in the absolute nature of our Creator.
As I sink deeper into this understanding that, regardless of worldly reflections, I can trust Creation - my body softens, my mind quiets, and I feel as peaceful as a sleeping baby.
A Perfect Example of God’s Nature
I once heard in a Peace and Resolution session from a deceased loved one that - God’s Got This. (If you would like to read the entire post - Go Here.)
Here’s what she had to say,
“God’s got this.”
That’s the message my client’s deceased Mother tells him.
She goes on to say, “Regardless of what someone is going through, or regardless of the horrific world or political issues, you’re to understand that - God’s got this.
When you feel worried or concerned or even when you’re thinking about something you desire, tell yourself, God’s got this.”
I wonder what our lives would be like if we were to feel - God’s got this.
What if every time we felt worried or scared or unsure of ourselves we had an instantaneous remembrance? What if - God’s got this - ran through our minds as naturally as breathing?
Imagine if we could be eternally bonded to this peaceful, powerful absolute truth - what a life-changing difference it would make.
