Have you ever been so invested in something or someone that you set yourself aside?
As of late, I found myself behaving that way.
Until…
I decided that what I am invested in (helping a grieving family member) is now what’s most important in my life. I also decided that I didn’t have to put myself aside.
I can be fully invested in being of help while still honoring myself. I can show up for myself and prioritise being of service.
It boils down to making a decision.
Although my family member is going through a life-changing challenge, he is determined to be okay. To find his way. To feel his way through with hope in his heart.
He made a decision.
His decision is life-saving.
It Starts with a Decision
Have you given thought to how your decisions create your life?
Think about it. We know that large decisions - who we choose to share our lives with, our acts of service, where we live, and whether we have children or pets - impact our lives.
But even the smallest decision - like choosing what to eat, hmm… the chips or the veggies.
Over time if repeated, what appears to be a small decision can make a huge difference in our lives.
Friend, through my years of colorful challenges, I’ve reasoned that the quality of life, or lack thereof, boils down to our decisions.
Our Lives are the Sum Total of Our Decisions
We can’t escape the fact that our decisions affect every facet of our lives… our bodies, relationships, homes, habits, hobbies, beliefs, and acts of service.
Whether we like it or not, the result of everything in our lives depends on our decisions.
My takeaway from being of service while still honoring myself boils down to the decision to look at my life from the angle of the question: What is life offering me here? (I discovered this question from Sage Robbins.)
The decision to ask this question gave me breathing room to make more space for myself.
What is life offering me here?
If you’re facing a problem, a dilemma, an issue, or an ongoing battle with something or someone, try pausing and asking yourself - What is life offering me here?
You may find like I did, the breathing room needed to make a supportive decision.
