Aloha, I almost didn’t get anything written today.
I sit here tonight, wiped of energy, yet happy to report that all will be well.
My husband had a health scare, and we spent the day in Hilo.
After finally seeing a doctor, we’re both much more at ease.
We’ll know even more after his ultrasound and blood work, but it appears that it’s not as serious as we thought.
So… for this post, I’ll just share a poem that I read as a teenager on my friend’s wooden box. It has stayed with me all these years, and I’m not surprised that today it came to mind.
I searched through many dandelion poems but I could not find this one.
I believe it’s called - A Little Dandelion
A little girl was playing in a sandbox long ago when a grain of sand fell in her eyes and her tears began to flow.
A little boy was passing by and knelt by her side and tried to wipe away the tears that she tried to hide.
He reached out over the sandbox and picked - a little dandelion, placed it in her hands and said, “You’ll be just fine.”
She looked at it and looked at him and the world became much brighter. She said, “It’s very pretty,” and clutched the flower tighter.
From that day on the boy and girl were friends with each other, they shared their toys and shared their dreams, and she loved him like a brother.
The years passed by and they grew up and went their separate ways, but they cherished all the memories of their happy childhood days.
Then on her eighteenth birthday much to her delight, she received a nameless package all wrapped in ribbons bright. In great anticipation, she tore the box apart, then stood in deadly silence amidst her pounding heart. There lay a dozen roses the prettiest of their kind, but in the middle of them all there lay - a little dandelion.
Her childhood dreams came flooding back and she wondered if they’d meet again for she knew she loved him so.
At last one day their paths did cross and they pledged their love anew. They were married in a little church and she said to him, “I do.”
The years passed by and their love grew stronger still, but she became quite ill. The church was filled with flowers of every single kind but in her wriggled hand, she held - a little dandelion.
I have so much I could talk about with you regarding this endearing poem, but I’m just too wiped out.
Please have a beautiful week.
Blessings to you and yours.
With all my love,
Gloria
