Deep in meditation, I hear - Everything starts with beauty.
What?
The hearing continues - Beauty is God and God is beauty. But to experience God-as-Beauty you must be willing to let go of judgment and guilt.
Then the seeing begins - I’m given a bird’s eye view of (let’s just say) less-than-happy times of my life.
Next, in a panoramic style, I witness catastrophic worldly events.
Whew! I cringe. Out loud, “I sure could use a piece of chocolate.”
Then in theater surround-sound style, I hear… beauty in all things, at all times, in all situations.
Having had my fair share of what some would call a woo-woo experience, as is my habit in such situations, (as much as I yearn for chocolate) I opt to breathe deeply.
The Understanding Begins
In the fictional drama Friday Night Lights, the coach of the high school team starts a movement with these powerful words: “Clear eyes, full hearts, can’t lose!”
In the midst of this other-worldly wisdom, those words come to life: clear eyes, full hearts, can’t lose.
Tears stream… Oh…I understand.
We can’t lose BEAUTY/GOD when we see with clear eyes (eyes without judgment) and live with a full heart (a heart unburden with guilt).
Teary-eyed… Okay, now what?
How to get from my finite less-than-perfect human self to my infinite beauty-in-all-things self?
GRACE
Remember my bird’s eye view of my less-than-happy times? Well, back to those pics. we go.
Apparently, my heavy heart is a sign that my oh-so-human self has been carrying a nasty weight of judgment and guilt over what I deem as injustices.
Oh friend, as if I’m being washed with Grace, with each unhappy scene that flashes before my eyes, beauty baths my being.
That is to say…understanding, acceptance, and love grace my heart, mind, and soul.
As I blissfully lie there, I hear - a glimpse.
A glimpse?
Ah, yes, a glimpse of God’s Beauty.
Acceptance
My meditative question the following day: As grateful as I AM for the Grace of a glimpse, how do I (we mortals) bring forth that act of Grace in our day-to-day goings-on?
The word - Acceptance - flutters before my eyes like a banner waving in the wind.
Of course, acceptance is always the key. Easy. No. Worth it. Yes.
My next question: So, where to start?
My answer comes like an echo in the mountains: the pain of course!
Of course!
Day-to-Day Is The Way
Dear, I know thinking of going into our pain is not the most pleasurable thought.
But considering our choice, letting our pain fester like an old wound or allowing our pain to transform into deeper healing, well I’d say our choice is clear, wouldn’t you?
Friend, please understand that we don’t have to conjure up every grievance we’ve ever had to begin experiencing God’s Beauty.
But if we’re serious about transforming our pain, we have to be willing to allow God’s Beauty to come into that which hurts us in our present day-to-day moments.
Anything from - a fleeting doubt, a future worry, a nagging thought, a guilt-ridden moment, a heavy judgment, a shameful feeling - anything that is NOT harmonious is up for God’s Beauty.
So, how do we begin accepting all of our varied emotions?
With Grace of course.
Dearest, I share with you a most graceful way to experience your acceptance and thus experience God’s Beauty now.
Please give yourself this gift of Grace.
“Beauty begins the moment you decide to be yourself.” Coco Chanel
I cannot think of a better way to be yourself than to fully accept you.
